Vote 16 Advances in the Canadian Parliament!
Multiple parties come out in support of bills to lower the voting age to 16
Dear Friends -
Yesterday was a *HUGE* day for our friends in the Vote 16 Canada movement!
Our colleague Jan Eichhorn of University of Edinburgh joined MP Taylor Bachrach and New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh for a press conference in Ottawa announcing a new Vote 16 push in the Canadian House of Commons. Senator Marilou McPhedran of Manitoba has filed a similar bill in the Canadian Senate.
You can watch the press conference here - it’s amazing to see how engaged policy makers are with research findings about what happens when we lower the voting age:
If you’re interested in learning more about the quad-partisan effort to lower the voting age in Canada, join Vote 16 Canada this evening at 8 pm ET to hear from members of parliament from four major Canadian political parties who are supporting this bill. You can register for the zoom here.
You can read more about this effort in this morning’s edition of the Toronto Globe and Mail. Sending good vibes to our Canadian colleagues! There is so much we can learn from their work.
Best,
